Danilo Fischetti – Rugby player

Danilo Fischetti began his journey in the world of rugby at Aprilia Rugby (formerly Garibaldina Rugby Aprilia) in Aprilia, province of Latina. From there, he continued his sporting growth by moving to Rugby Lanuvio in Lanuvio, a municipality in the province of Rome. Already at the age of 16, his talent took him to the youth teams of the renowned Capitolina Rugby, preparing him for even more ambitious challenges.

The Rise with the FIR Academy and the Under-20 National Team

In 2016, Danilo was selected for the FIR “Ivan Francescato” Academy, where he showed his potential in the Under-20 Six Nations. His determination and skills made him a point of reference for the Italian Under-20 national team, preparing him for the next leap into professional rugby.

Success in Calvisano and entry into the Zebre

In 2017, Danilo signed with Calvisano, where he quickly made his mark on Italian rugby. In 2019, he celebrated winning the title of Italian champion with Calvisano, also earning individual recognition as the best player in the league. During his tenure, he was a permit player for Zebre, Parma’s federal club, before being signed full-time in May 2019.

The Call to the 2019 World Cup

Danilo was called up in an emergency by coach Conor O’Shea during the summer preparation for the 2019 World Cup. Although initially not included in the final squad, he was called up during the competition to replace injured players. Although he did not make his debut due to a World Rugby decision, his entry into the international context was now a certainty. 

The Affirmation with Italy and Franco Smith’s Convocations

Franco Smith has recognised Danilo’s value, confirming him on Italy’s roster for the 2020 Six Nations, where he made his international debut against Wales at the Millennium Stadium. His consistent presence on the field throughout the tournament has proven his importance to the national team. His international adventure continued with the Autumn Nations Cup, confirming his crucial role in the future of Italian rugby.
